5 Tips to Stretch Your Wardrobe

How many times have you looked in your closet and declared, “I have nothing to wear!”? This dilemma happens to nearly everyone at some point. It’s normal to feel bored with one’s clothes and want something new. What usually happens is most of us immediately head out to buy something, which can mean hundreds of dollars down the drain.

If you know how to stretch your wardrobe, then you can freshen up your look without needing to go shopping so frequently. If you’re wondering how to start doing that, then just read up on these 5 easy tips on how to stretch your wardrobe.

1. Invest in the basics- Basics are a beautiful thing. They’re easy to wear, usually inexpensive and go with just about anything. This is why it is so important for your wardrobe to contain trusty basics. Even if you wear a plain white tee every other day, there are multiple ways to change up your look! Stock up on well made basics such us a plain white tee-shirt, a black tank top, an oxford shirt, and a simple pair of blue jeans and these items are sure to serve you for years to come!

2. Layer, layer, layer- Layering is another way for anyone to stretch their wardrobe. When you put different things together, you immediately come up with new looks, each one different from the last. Layering will also take your summer pieces and make them appropriate for the winter months. Layering is also a great way to give your basics new dimension.

3. Change up the accessories- Accessories are the finishing touches to any outfit, and are usually the pieces that really give it personality. Try the same outfit, but mix up the accessories that you use with it. Try pairing it with different shoes, a different bag, even different jewelry. You’ll be surprised with the difference it makes.

4. Get organized- Most people end up buying more and more clothes because they can’t find what they need inside their own messy closets. This is why it is key to get organized. Take stock of what you have, and arrange your clothes in a way where you can see everything. Give away or throw out clothes that do not fit, or you do not use anymore. Instantly, you’ll find pieces that you’ve forgotten about, making them seem new again.

5. Take note of what exactly you need- If you find yourself still needing an item or two after all the tips above, remember to take note of exactly what you need when you go shopping. If you need a new top to go with some pants, take the pants with you when you go shopping. This way, you won’t make the mistake of buying something that won’t match, and you’ll be getting exactly what you want!
