Driving Towards Disaster: Survival of the Best Prepared by Ron Foster

I'm always eager to read Ron Foster's latest book. Not only do his books keep you entertained, but you learn so much about survival techniques as well. It's always like a two-for-one deal with this author's books. I have to admit that this book scared me more than the others. Why? Because of the pandemic (among other catastrophes). To me, this is very plausible and possible. If we look throughout history we see that illnesses have spread wild and wiped out a great number of people. The Black Death that swept through Europe in the 14th century, the Spanish Flu in 1918 that killed more than 20 million people worldwide... The truth is, pandemics do occur and if you aren't prepared you'll simply become a victim.

In Driving Towards Disaster; Survival of the Best Prepared we get to see the situation through the eyes of an emergency responder. Imagine having the task of helping out yet trying to survive as well? Mix the pandemic in with a major hurricane and all hell is breaking loose in this book! But...as with each of Ron Foster's books, there is hope at the core of them. The main message is to be prepared (or perish).

From Dinosaur to Dynamite, the Secret of Joyful Sex by Patricia Murray-Chute

Too many women aren't enjoying sex. How sad is that? Something so natural, so freeing, and feels so darn good is seen by a huge percentage of ladies as alien or out of reach. The older we get, the more foreign the words "great sex" seem us. So what's the problem and how can you fix it? In From Dinosaur to Dynamite, the Secret of Joyful Sex, author Patricia Murray-Chute tackles the varied reasons why women aren't having fun in the bedroom. She holds nothing back as she bares her own soul and experiences, while offering the reader solid and helpful methods to get out of her own way and finally enjoy sex.

Some of the subjects she covers are eating (with delicious recipes from Golden Door Health) and exercising to help you feel sexier and healthier, the importance of communication in a relationship (no, he can't read your mind!), personal growth together, overcoming obstacles, and so much more. Patricia is a life coach, so she knows her stuff! Some strategies covered in the book come from NLP, the Law of Attraction, honesty and common sense. She helps the reader get to the core of the problem to discover why she isn't having wonderful sexual experiences and how to overcome it.

In the author's own words: "I want mature people to realise they can still enjoy a wonderful sex life. The younger generation always think they invented sex and that after 40 years or so you just forget it ever existed. I can say with authority and joy that they are wrong and experience is key to enjoyment and sexual fulfillment. After many years of nursing and midwifery, I have listened to women in the three countries where I have lived, tell me their woes and worries about a decline in desire and enjoyment of the physical side of their relationship and I have written this with them in mind."

I highly recommend this book to any woman who wants to have dynamite sex, no matter her age. Even men can learn a thing or two from reading it! You can find her book here.

Driving Toward Disaster: The Story Thus Far by Ron Foster - Review

I often think about how a pandemic would affect everyday life. If it got really bad it makes you wonder if you'd rather be one who succumbed to the disease or survived it yet had to live in a world of chaos and martial law. In Driving Towards Disaster: The Story Thus Far Ron Foster paints a very realistic picture of what would happen if the U.S. was faced with a pandemic and, to make matters worse, a deadly hurricane! What makes Ron Foster's book different from other "worst case scenario" or survival books like this is that it's from the viewpoint of a responder. Imagine having to be the one to be a first responder to such utter devastation. Yet through it all the author gives us hope and tosses in a satisfying amount of wit as well. As with all of Mr. Foster's books the reader will also learn a whole lot about survival.

A Prepper Prepares For Christmas by Ron Foster Review

The Preppers are back and preparing for a long winter...and Christmas. Wow, I can't imagine what the holidays would be like if we got to a point of "the end of the world as we know it." Christmas is usually a time of joy, gluttony, gifts, friends, and family. But what would you do if the carpet was pulled out from under you and nothing was the same? The Preppers have a hard enough time surviving during the warmer months (though they always manage to pull through) so how will they survive the bitter cold? Not only do they find ways to feed themselves and stay warm and safe, but A Prepper Prepares For Christmas:The Prepper Saga volume 2 is a message to us all. We should focus on what truly matters--those we care about and life in general. It's not how much you have but how much you give. This particular volume in the Prepper series left me feeling philosophical and I truly enjoy what I have in my life much more!

The Prepper Road Saga: Our End Of The Lake Revisited by Ron Foster

Since I've begun reading Ron Foster's Preppers series, I haven't looked at life the same way since. What used to be seen as "must-haves" in my life are now viewed as only perks to living a relatively low-stress life. I can live without them if need be. What used to be seen as junk or trash, is now viewed with the eye of a prepper. Someone who fully intends to survive if there's ever a global catastrophe or breakdown of society. It's like adopting a MacGyver attitude. Plastic bags, cans, tubes, tarps, and other things we often toss out in the garbage can actually come in handy when you're trying to survive.

This book not only covers more methods of how to find food, water, shelter and protection during a worldwide cataclysm, but we get to meet the characters up close and personal. As with all of the author's books, he combines humor, adventure, and helpful hints. As a lover of nonfiction books, I find it to be a perfect blend. So what's the author trying to get across in the Prepper series? That as long as you're alive there's hope, so never, ever give up!

The Light In The Lake (Prepper Trilogies) by Ron Foster Review

Now that the survivors have found shelter you'd think they could relax a bit, but that wouldn't be wise. There are others who'd love to force them out of their cabins and steal their food and ammo. The bottom line is, when there's a breakdown of society you never let your guard down. Only the strong survive!

In this installment of the Prepper Trilogies we still get loads of survival information mingled in with a nice storyline that's often humorous. Yes, even if you're spending your days and nights merely trying to survive, you've got to keep your sense of humor! Can these preppers not only survive, but thrive and build a new society? Will it be anything like that of the past or something brand new? I was satisfied with the results and enjoy the vision of this author. Hey, it "could" be our future too! Ron Foster's books will teach you a thing or two so you'll be well ahead of the rest.

Bug Out! Preppers On The Move!: Bug Out To Live and Eat After EMP by Ron Foster

Another wonderful book by Ron Foster! What I enjoy about his books is that he shows you, through an interesting story line and engaging characters, how to survive and thrive if "the grid" was no longer.

Think about how many things you take for granted each day, from cell phones, computers, and TV to refrigerators and ATM machines. What would you do if there was no electricity? If society started crumbling around you? What would you eat and how would you protect yourself? Where would you go?

These questions and many more are answered in BUG OUT! Preppers on the move!: Bug out to live and eat after EMP. In this installment of the Preppers trilogy we get to see life on the move after technology is wiped out due to solar storms. It's a great way to learn solid survival techniques that just may come in handy some day. I'm prepared...are you?

Preppers Road March by Ron Foster Review

I love stories like this since I'm a prepper too. Or, as I call myself, "a laid-back survivalist." I grew up loving stories like Julie of the Wolves, Hatchet, Robinson Crusoe, and Swiss Family Robinson. What I enjoyed about Preppers Road March (Prepper Trilogy. is that it's got a good story with funny characters and solid prepping information and diagrams in the book. We get to travel along with David and see how he survives during a societal breakdown and ultimately finds his way back home. I found myself holding my breath more than once hoping his survivalist skills would see him through. I can't wait to read the others in the series. Not only am I being entertained, but I'm learning things too!

Free Vistaprint Business Cards Review

Image representing Vistaprint as depicted in C...Image via CrunchBaseRecently I got an email from Vistaprint to get 250 business cards for free. I needed some new cards for my writing business so I figured I couldn't lose with this deal. Now, the cards aren't totally free. I had to pay about $5 for shipping and handling, which isn't bad. They have hundreds of templates to choose from and they cover a wide variety of business types; everything from landscaping and dentistry to massage therapy and childcare.

Their system is easy to use. Just choose the template you like and on the following screen you type in your information. It will show up on the template so you can see exactly what it will look like. After you have your card the way you like it you give it the okay and then go through several screens of special offers. I opted out of them all--I just wanted my free business cards.

About two weeks later they came in the mail. Here's what I did and didn't like about the Vistaprint free business cards:

Although the font looked really good on my computer screen, it was far too small when I got to see the cards in person. From now on I'll go to their screen that allows you to manipulate the text and fonts and make the writing bigger.

The free cards only came in matte finish and I didn't like how "washed out" they looked. It made them look very cheap too, like something I could print from my computer at home. If I opted for the glossy finish it would have been $10 more.

Every card has a white line down one side. I'm assuming it's from where the machine cut the cards.

"Vistaprint" is printed on the back. If I wanted a blank back it would have been more money.

Aside from these factors, for free business cards they were decent. However, I would definitely pay for the glossy next time. I probably won't use these cards since I need something more professional looking, but many people may find them suitable.

I often see specials where they offer the better business cards for $10 which include the glossy finish and a blank back. I'll wait until they're offering this again and get the nicer cards.

Dell Inspiron Netbook Review

Since I work from home all of my business is done on the computer. I prefer a netbook over a desktop PC or even a full sized laptop since I travel a lot and hate lugging around a bulky laptop. For a few years I had an HP Mini 1030 but it only had 15GB of memory. I found myself juggling files constantly and buying memory cards and flash drives to store the extra information. About two months ago I decided to buy a refurbished Dell Inspiron Mini 1012. It definitely has it's good points and a bad point.

What I like about the Dell Inspiron Netbook:

~It's a lot sturdier than the HP Mini I had. The keys are thicker and very tight and don't seem like they're going to fall off at any minute. (That's one problem I had with my HP) It's a bit heavier than the HP but that's okay. It seems like it's much better made than the other mini computer I had.

~It has 250GB of memory. Yay! No more juggling files around.

~The battery life is phenomenal. I've used it several times for over 6 hours and the battery still had 2 hours left on it.

~The screen is very clear and sharp. With the HP it seemed a bit "dull."

~It plays most games pretty well. I tend to purchase games from Big Fish Games or Popcap Games and none of these are too intense. Nothing like World of Warcraft or Call of Duty.

~The sound quality is average for a mini computer. When you plug in headphones though it's really good. On the HP it sounded awful no matter what.

~It comes with Windows 7 Starter edition which is fine for my needs. I noticed that the Wordpad program is even updated to where it works almost like a regular word processing program. On the HP is was very primitive.

~When I loaded my music onto the Dell it shows all the album covers. That's a nice little addition and something I didn't have with the HP.

~When I open and close the lid it feels good and tight. With the HP mini I had to constantly tighten the hinge screws since they'd come loose in less than a week.

My only complaint:

~It doesn't connect to the internet via wifi very well. Actually, it's quite frustrating. The HP mini stayed connected fine and was pretty fast. With the Dell Inspiron Mini I'll get "not responding" many times during the day. I'm talking about several times each hour. This is something that really drives me insane though I enjoy all the other features so much that I try to be forgiving. If you have any suggestions on how I can speed it up or get it to connect better please let me know.  It's so bad I thought I might have a virus or Trojan but I ran a few good adware/spyware/anti-virus programs and it came out clean.

Should you buy the Dell Inspiron mini 1012?

If you want to browse the internet quickly or play games with a lot of action then this probably isn't the computer for you. Plants vs. Zombies does well, but games with higher level graphics are very slow or don't run at all. However, if you play smaller games like I do, are a student or writer or blogger, of don't need a computer that's very fast or does too many fancy things, then this is definitely a fabulous small computer to get. Best of all, I bought both the HP and the Dell refurbished from a seller on Amazon.com and I paid the same for them, less than $250 including S&H. In my opinion, I got a much, much better deal with the Dell mini!

Fast Zombies With Guns Review

I've seen just about every movie ever made that has to do with zombies. From George A Romero's Night of the Living Dead, to 28 Days Later (not a true zombie film), and Tokyo Zombie (the only zombie film I couldn't sit through.) Fast Zombies With Guns is just plain fun. What would you do if the world was not only overrun with zombies, but fast ones, and they carry guns?! I'd say we wouldn't stand a snowball's chance in hell. This is a great zombie movie with a twist, and just as gory as any other. Definitely add this to your zombie collection!

Almost Invisible: The Party's Over When You're Dead Review

This movie reminded me a bit of Scream and Carrie...and a mixed bag of other teen-party-gone-enormously-wrong films. This low budget movie has everything in it, from the social outcast and popular kids, to naked girls and a creepy house holding them hostage. At the center of all the screaming and mayhem is the strained romance between two of the characters. I really would have liked to have seen more of this. Maybe there will be an Almost Invisible 2. Throughout the movie you wonder what the heck happens to some of these kids. Are they dead, alive, hiding, or what? It all makes sense in the end. There was enough gore and plot twists to keep me well entertained.

Death Angel December: Vengeance Kill Review

I've always loved revenge and vigilante movies. I grew up watching Charles Bronson, Carrie, Mad Max, and just about every martial arts movie. Most revenge films have a male lead, but in Death Angel December it's a feisty and sexy woman. In the movie this girl watches her family brutally attacked and killed. This would mess with anyone's head! Instead of going in for counseling though, she decides to become an assassin when she grows up. Revenge is the only thing on her mind and she doesn't disappoint when she finds the scum bags that killed her family. The ending is both outrageous and satisfying. Who wouldn't want to be able to single-handedly kill off a small army of men?!

House of Sin Review

This movie reminded me of an erotic and less gory version of Hostile. Remember that movie where the wealthy could act out any fantasy they had? Those fantasies seemed to revolve around torture and murder, while in House of Sin sex is on the menu--and there's a huge variety! Why do I love Philip Gardiner films? He's living a dream, that's why. He has the ambition to follow what intrigues him and makes films from them. It's also interesting to see him "grow" over the years. His films get better, tighter, and more intriguing. I'm always wondering what he'll come up with next. House of Sin didn't disappoint me. There's enough eroticism without downright porn. It's eerie and weird, without making your stomach churn (which I felt while watching Hostile!) What would you do if you entered a house like this? What fantasies do you keep locked up? Or would it shock and disgust you to enter this home?

UFOs Do Not Exist: The Grand Deception and Cover-Up of the UFO Phenomenon Review

Naturally, the title of this film was meant to show how the government wants us to believe that UFOs and aliens from other planets don't exist. They cover up anything and everything that could provide the public with absolute proof of existence of extraterrestrials. What I like about this DVD is the fact that the producer has included a lot of information from decades past and more recent. This way the viewer can get a good look at the years and years of government cover-ups. Sure, I've seen and heard a lot of this stuff before, but I still find it completely fascinating. The film maker is very passionate and knowledgeable about this topic.

Secret Societies And Sacred Stones: From Mecca to Megaliths Review

For tens of thousands of years humans have worshiped stones in various ways. They've carved stone and prayed to stone and built empires with it. In Secret Societies and Sacred Stones we're given detailed information through interviews with experts and many photos and footage. Why did people of the past covet certain stones and what did they feel they could achieve by harnessing its power? Some felt stones could steal your soul while others believed they could protect against evil. Fascinating stuff! I suggest watching this DVD then the director's movie The Stone since it will make even more sense and be that much scarier!

The Stone: No Soul Unturned Review

I love horror movies of all types. I don't care if it's low budget or Hollywood budget. The Stone had an interesting story line where each person was forced to face their inner demons. Humans have some pretty ugly stuff inside them and can be afraid of just about anything. Remember the Stay Puft Marshmallow man in Ghost Busters? In The Stone there isn't anything as silly as that and as the story picks up it grows more intense. The hard music that shows up during the film is something I've come to expect from Philip Gardiner films. Everyone has their unique creative "fingerprint" and this is just one of his. If I saw one of his films without it I'd probably be disappointed!

Aliens From Outer Space: UFO Landings, Crashes and Retrievals Review

I've always been very interested in UFOs and the possibility of alien contact. This DVD covers 50+ years of UFO landings, crashes and retrievals. It's packed with photos and detailed narration of some of the most popular and even little known UFO information. I thoroughly believe we aren't alone in this universe and films like this just add more concreteness to the belief. If you're a UFO buff you should definitely add this DVD to your collection.

Forbidden Knowledge of Lost Realms Review

This 3 disc set of conspiracy DVDs covers Vikings, snake worship, and the Celtic cross. Philip Gardiner always presents these entertaining topics with much detail. Whenever I watch his films it's like being taken on a tour of the the ancient sites. There's so much detail and things to really think about. I love films like that! Whether all of it is true or not isn't the point, but keeping an open mind and mulling over other possibilities and answers is what keeps me coming back to his latest releases.

Poor Chloe King

Guest post written by Rachel Brentmeyer

I really couldn't imagine what it would be like if you were 16 and found out that you were a part of some kind of human cat ancient race. But then on top of that, finding out that you're supposed to unite that race together in the world would be even more to bear. I think thought that Chloe King in the new show The Nine lives of Chloe King is handling it well, considering all things. I've been watching the new show and I've really been following along to all of the details and enjoying it!

I was online trying to find some season finale spoilers just because I'm so interested in it and while I was online looking, I saw the site wirelessinternetproviders.net. After I read through it a little bit, I decided to change over my home internet service to the provider.

I didn't find out all that much, besides what I had already figured out. I'm sure that Chloe getting romantically involved with her keeper is going to further complicate things. But at least they can kiss without her killing him!

Unemployed Imagination - JD Mader

Mr. Mader is definitely creative. If you stop by his Unemployed Imagination blog you'll see that he has a fiction novel "Joe Cafe" (which some say is as good or even better than anything Chuck Palahniuk has written), along with a nonfiction section "Avoiding The Stair" and even music - The Flying Black Hats.

He updates his blog pretty regularly with bits of fiction and nonfiction both. I got particularly caught up in his most recent post titled Doris. Most of us have known a vampy neighbor like this, I'm sure. If you get easily offended by swear words you might want to skip this, though if you read Chuck Palahniuk I'm certain you can handle it. ;-)

Take a break from the norm and go on over to Unemployed Imagination then buy Joe Cafe while you're at it.

The Complete First Aid Kit - Includes Save-A-Tooth

I have to admit that I got excited when asked to do this review. You see, I've always had a strong "survivalist" streak running through me. I like being prepared for emergencies and hard times, maybe because I was in the Girl Scouts or perhaps because my family and I would rough-it while camping for two weeks every summr. Either way, I always have a first aid kit handy. However, I haven't run across First-Aid kits that contain anything to save a tooth. I had 5 kids and there were times when a tooth emergency would strike but there was no way to take care of it. Now there is! The Complete First Aid Kit contains just about everything you need for emergencies.

Here's more information about this kit. EVERY home, office and automobile should have one.

✓ The Complete First Aid Kit is the only kit in the world containing Save-A-Tooth. It is what makes this kit special.
✓ Many famous third party and government organizations like the MAYO Clinic and The National Institutes of health now recommend including a tooth saving kit (Save-A-Tooth) in first aid kits. (The NIH and Mayo Clinic do not directly endorse our brand)
✓ The kits are 100% made and manufactured in the United States
✓ The kits are manufactured in an FDA approved facility for extra safety
✓ The selection of items has been hand picked to provide for every minor injury rather than fluffing the kit up with hundreds of band-aids.
✓ The box is waterproof in case of a flood emergency or the area has high humidity.
✓ Contents are individually boxed to keep things clean and tidy after use.

I really like the fact that it's packed with real things you need for just about every type of emergency rather than most kits that boast "Over 100 pieces!" and 95 of those are Band-Aids. I included a picture of the open box so you can see everything that's in it. Get your Complete First Aid Kit today and be prepared!

Blue Island Beer Club

If you like Jimmy Buffet then you'll love Blue Island Beer Club. Colin Ward and Bruce Kula write and perform the songs that are a combination of pop, blues, and island music. Listening to their new album Have You a Taste makes you want to find a tropical beach and sip pina coladas all day long. I listened to the album and really enjoyed it, especially Have You A Taste.

Their songs incorporate things they enjoy most like exotic places, beaches, guitars, and women. You can't help but smile and sing along when listening to Blue Island Beer Club. Their music is a reminder that all work and no play makes Jack (and Jane) very dull. Kick back, relax, and enjoy this band.

Deli a GoGo - Whitchurch Village Cardiff, Wales

My last name is Wallace, like William Wallace aka Braveheart. I like to say we're related. Don't look him up on Wikipedia, he looks nothing like Mel Gibson. Wallace is an old scots term for Welsh speaking or 'of Welsh stock'. I really enjoy delving into my ancestral history and also eating foods from those countries. Today's review is about Deli a GoGo which is located in Cardiff, Wales and has a menu that will make you drool.

For those in the States who've heard that the food over there is bland and boring, look over Deli a GoGo's site and think again! As I scanned the menu, I homed in on the "cheese & cheese" section. I'm a cheese lover through and through. Not only do they have an excellent selection, but I also learned about the "Juliet Harbutt’s system from the World Cheese Book" to identify cheese. 1 is fresh cheese and it goes all the way past hard (number 5) to 7, which has flavor added. You learn something new every day!

Whether you're looking for wonderful wine and cheese, or a scrumptious sandwich or brunch, be sure to stop by Deli a GoGo.

Home Run Inn - Best Chicago Style Pizza

Pizza is pizza, right? Wrong! I like to consider myself a pizza connoisseur. They aren't all created equal, that's for sure. Yes, there are places that provide cheap pizza that you can pick up and walk out with in under a minute. You know, those "hot and ready" kind? But, in the end, you get what you pay for. Me, I love Chicago style pizza...and it better be good!
Home Run Inn makes some of the best Chicago style pizza around. They've been in the business since the 1940's, so they really know their stuff. You won't find watery sauce or skimpy toppings gracing their handmade dough. If you're not in the mood for pizza they have dynamite buffalo wings and other menu items as well.

If you're ever in Chicago, be sure to stop by one of their eight locations and get one of their phenomenal pizzas and enjoy the friendly family atmosphere. Home Run Inn also has frozen pizzas you can pop in the oven at home.
